pullin’ shots in my dream loft.

I am officially a certified coffee expert. Well…maybe not, but I’m working on it.
Since arriving in this land o’ caffeine, I have felt wayyyy behind on my espresso skills and knowledge. And now that I’m working brunches at Tilth, I felt I needed to take some action to correct that. People in this city would be sure to let me know if their macchiato wasn’t up to their standards.
I got in touch with Caffe Vita and signed up for one of their Barista Training courses, which I had yesterday. Oh man, was it awesome. First of all, Caffe Vita is an exceptional company, with great employees, delicious coffee and they’re just doin it right in the world of branding, sustainability and knowledge of their product.

I went to the Capitol Hill roasting headquarters and met my trainer. A couple people from Coastal Kitchen were supposed to take the course with me but they didn’t show so I got three hours all to myself with a coffee expert. The actual training took place in a loft that Vita owns a couple blocks from the cafe. It’s where their marketing and design peeps work and where they have fun company dinners and such. OH MY GAWWWWWD, this place was unreal. I felt like I was in a movie. It’s as if someone went inside my head and designed my perfect apartment and then teased me by letting me inhabit it (aka-make delicious coffee drinks inside of it) for only three hours of my life.

Other than the amazing place, the course was exceptional. I learned a TON and I can even do latte art now, thank you very much.
I just absolutely loooooooooooooooooove this city and all the passion and knowledge these people have for food and drinks. Not only do they enjoy what they do, but they work so hard to learn and grow in all facets of their work and it’s so admirable. I feel very lucky to be working my way into this Seattle scene and I can’t wait for where it will take me.
